Event Planner Notes

We received a call in February from a couple who were hoping to be married in July at the Naval Academy Chapel. Amanda and Kevin live in Cincinnati and were planning a trip to Maryland to meet with the Chapel coordinator and a few Wedding Planners.

Amanda and Kevin arrived in early February for a whirlwind pre-planning weekend. They left Cincinnati on a Saturday morning, with Kevin’s first task being to formally ask Amanda to marry him. That’s right; Amanda was starting to plan her wedding without the prior technicality of an official engagement. So on the flight to Maryland (while the hostess was serving juice and coffee), Kevin got down on one knee and proposed to Amanda with a beautiful diamond ring. Next it was on to the hotel to meet with us and follow up on several other appointments. Before their departure on Sunday, Amanda and Kevin asked to meet with us again – this is when they decided to have Encounters plan their day.

Kevin and his father were both graduates of the Naval Academy so he really wanted his celebration to be in Annapolis. Kevin originally thought one of the downtown Annapolis Hotels would be fine for the party. However, we could tell that the Hotel was not the “perfect” venue for Amanda. We asked, “if the reception were to be held in Ohio, what kind of venue would they choose? Amanda liked the idea of a Historic home with beautiful gardens. So with that in mind, we thought the Elkridge Furnace Inn would be the ideal spot for her. She loved the pictures on the Elkridge website!

A few weeks later, Amanda flew back to Maryland for a day of planning with her mom. We filled the day with a visit to the Elkridge Furnace Inn followed by photography and floral meetings. Then it was time for Amanda to get back on a plane to Ohio. We only had one more weekend visit with Amanda and Kevin before their wedding. This visit included a menu & cake tasting, deejay meeting and linen selections.
